Pilot Training
Certificates and Ratings
Private Pilot Certificate
The most common pilot certificate in the US. The rules are fairly straight forward. An individual must be at least 17 years old, and complete a minimum of 40 hours of flight time in order to obtain this certificate. Training for the certificate can begin before the student has reached the age of 17.
A Private Pilot may carry passengers, but cannot fly for hire. The private pilot’s certificate must be revalidated every 24 months via review with a certified flight instructor (CFI).
Commercial Pilot Certificate
A more advanced pilot rating that allows the pilot to fly for hire. An individual must be at least 18 years old and complete 250 hours of flight time through FAR part 61.
There are other training options for this certificate through FAR part 141 schools. The commercial pilot’s certificate must be revalidated every 24 months via review with a certified flight instructor (CFI).
Instrument Rating
Added rating to a pilot certificate that allows a pilot to fly solely by reference to aircraft instruments.
A student must hold a private certificate or higher. By the time of testing, a student must have 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight, and 50 hours of PIC cross country time.
Endorsements
High Performance/Complex
We offer a combined endorsement package for the High Performance and Complex endorsements. Both of these endorsements are one-time endorsements to a pilots records. A high performance endorsement allows a pilot to act as PIC in an aircraft with horsepower above 200. A complex endorsement allows a pilot to act as PIC of an aircraft with retractable landing gear, controllable pitch propeller, and flaps.
Our training for these endorsements is performed in our Piper Comanche, N46P. The endorsement training consists of around 5 hours in the air and 2 on the ground for an estimated cost of around $1600.
